The underlying problem

The real reason gun law reform will not get changed is how Washington works. What really needs to change is election financing. We have to reform the current system. ALL elections must be publicly financed. Everyone can use ONLY the federal funds provided. And business must give a certain amount of time for free advertisements. NO PAID COMMERCIALS! (or infomercials). TV has free airwaves, so they get to suck it up. Of course we need a limit on quantity... and place them at a specific time so citizens can avoid them if they choose. This goes for every form of media. If they sell ads, they must take free political ads. No PACs, SuperPACs or SuperDuperPACs. ALL financing and expenditures posted on the interwebs for all to see, or they get no more money & can not run. You want to donate, fine, into the general coffers it goes! No tax deduction either. Not sure how to handle rallies, but we can figure it out. Private & PAC money must go. Then we can ban lobbyists - well ma...

Second things first

The gun debate has raged on for too long. We have to move forward. To that end, I shall give a few ideas for modernizing US law. We must deal with assault rifles as well as all firearms. NRA nonsense notwithstanding, the Second Amendment was about militias and the right to keep and bear MUSKETS. " A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed " Not easily reloadable cartridge fed firearms. Neither wheel guns nor magazine loaded pistols or rifles. Seriously, if anything more advanced than this was part of the writing of the Second Amendment, then someone from the future must have been present! The Militia part has it's own set of questions - not what I will cover. And since the wording of the Second Amendment says "A well regulated Militia", let's get on with regulations: We should pass some laws for our current times. Reasonable, fair, and with teet...
